This Math Monday, we’re celebrating Black Historical past Month with profiles of 3 wonderful Black mathematicians that you’ll be able to convey into your school room.

Dr. Candice Value
Candice Value is an Affiliate Professor within the Division of Arithmetic and Statistics at Smith Faculty. Her challenge is to “make stronger communities traditionally and systemically excluded in STEM by means of developing and supporting methods that building up visibility, magnify the voices of ladies and folks of colour and create networks and group in STEM to offer alternatives to percentage assets.” She is the co-founder of Mathematically Talented and Black and Underrepresented Scholars in Topology and Algebra Analysis Symposium (USTARS). Dr. Christine Darden
Christine Darden is a mathematician and engineer who labored at NASA for 40 years, focusing on researching sonic booms and designing quieter supersonic planes. She was once the primary African American lady to be promoted to the highest control rank of Senior Government Carrier at NASA. In 2019, she was once awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the absolute best civilian award within the nation, for her paintings at NASA.

Reginald ‘RB’ McGee is an assistant professor at Faculty of the Holy Move who research computational immunobiology. He started his research in Actuarial Science, ahead of converting his primary to Math and ultimately specializing in the intersection of math and biology.
